Jo Dyer - Artistic Director & founder of Animate Arts Company
Jo Dyer trained as a theatre designer and developed a passion for collaborating with performers and artists across a range of art forms, in order to create memorable experiences. From theatre to art installations, her portfolio of work illustrates a wide range of commissions in diverse settings for many different demographic audiences.
Predominantly working as a visual artist, her creative ideas explore changing spaces and people physically to engage audiences through sensory, social and hands-on interaction. She often uses costume, textiles, scenery and sculpture, amongst other art mediums to investigate her ethos of participation. By breaking down the formal barriers between artist and audience, her path led naturally into education and community projects, particularly in the facilitation of creative workshops.
With over ten year experience, Jo has also formed Animate Arts and continues to direct the company, as well as continuing to be an active, participating artist in projects.
Rob Turner - Public artist and blogger
Rob Turner is an artist who works exclusively in the public realm. He studied fine art at St Martin’s School of Art in London, graduating in 1984. Rob started as a painter, working with communities, making social comment painting murals. Rob went on to develop his work within environmental and landscape contexts, as a mosaic maker and sculptor. He has developed his art further by consulting, researching and working with communities using a variety of reclaimed local materials, which often adds a layer of local history to his work. He now works with many partners including gardeners, performers, town planners, architects, educators and community leaders in true collaboration. Over a 25 year career, Rob has explored his own creativity and engaged directly with the changing relationship between art and society through the creation of well over 100 public and community art projects across the U.K.
