Hythe Bay Primary School

Year 1 pupils from Hythe Bay shared some of their favourite parts of Hythe - from the places they like to visit to things they like to do when they are in town. They drew pictures these favourite places and here are a few of the most popular suggestions:

The ice-cream van by the beach
(apparently there are always cues for this local tasty treat!)

The local football pitch and playing football in the park

Images of the park, especially the play-grounds, trees and wildlife

The local church, with stained glass windows, and the smiling vicar!

The local library (check out those stairs!)

The famous Romney & Dymchurch Railway

The lovely pebble beach

We also talked about Hythe's famous title of being a 'Cinque Port'. We discovered that King Edward I gave the town this very important role - to build ships for the country, provide sea crews to sail our seas and provide a port to defend England.

King Edward I and his wonky blue eyes

Although we couldn't find any pictures of what this king looked like, we did find out that he had a nick-name of King Longshanks. He had this name because he had very long legs and arms. He had very blue eyes too, although one eye was a little lower on his face, giving him a very distinctive look! King Longshanks married to Queen Eleanor and they had six children during their long happy marriage. We decided to create some portraits of this King who had such an influence on our town, Hythe.
